About the Position: Serves as the Installation Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) Financial Counselor providing resources for Survivors of the Fallen military service members.

Duties

Maintain a consumer library, which includes extensive and current program information. Refer clients to local agencies, DA counterparts, and client creditors. Negotiate with financial institutions to obtain reduced or deferred payments, reschedule payment plans and refinance loans. Coordinate with Legal professionals and agencies in managing complex cases involving foreclosures, evictions, garnishment and repossessions. Implement a program of direct counseling assistance to Surviving Families on consumer affairs, debt liquidation, financial counseling, and budget counseling.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires a Financial Counselor certification.
• Financial Disclosure Statement OGE Form 450 is used to assist agencies and employees to avoid conflicts between duties and financial interest.

OR Education: I have successfully completed a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Finance or Counseling. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.
