This position is located within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard, Training Center Yorktown, Training Division, Response Branch, Emergency & Disaster Management School in Yorktown, VA.

Duties

The incumbent is responsible for designing, developing, revising, and conducting courses under the Emergency and Disaster Management School (TREDM), US Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown. This includes establishing training criteria to meet organizational requirements, formulating training plans, assessing program effectiveness and developing improved curricula as needed.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Domestic travel as required to support TREDM course delivery.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the Coast Guard Instructor (PER-JC)
  • And Master Training Specialist qualifications.
  • Previous Incident Command Systems (ICS) qualification is required.

Qualifications

GS-12 grade level: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work and demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of  specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); supervising or administering a training program; development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; and working in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
