About the position: This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Aquatics Center, Kirtland AFB, NM.
This position will be filled as a Flexible employment category.
Flexible employment category guarantees 00 hrs/week (may work up to 40 hrs/wk).
Position may include weekends, evenings, and nights.
Position requires current Lifeguard Certification, First Aid Certification, and CPR Certification.
Previous swimming, coaching, and lifeguarding experience is preferred.
Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons.
Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area.
Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed.
Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.
When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards.
Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made.
May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing areas, etc.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete to complete Childcare Background Checks and Investigation (CNACI and State Checks) with favorable results.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, and push/pull 100 pounds.
- This position requires the incumbent possess Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and Adult and Child CPR Certifications.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures
Skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable
Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training.
Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, and push/pull 100 pounds.

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
