Duties

As a working Supervisor, incumbent must have a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the high voltage systems at NIST as well as knowledge of elevator and mechanical hoisting equipment and must be adept in the repair and maintenance of this equipment. His/Her responsibilities require the application of a broad range of electrical principles such as those required to test and adjust delicate and sensitive relays to keep fault current to a minimum or in the event of a fault cause the breakers to trip; also, to keep the relays operating at a set value which will minimize the number of buildings losing power. Incumbent must be able to set up test equipment to perform checks, adjustments and calibrations of relays and associated components protecting the electrical distribution systems throughout the site. He/She must be versatile in his/her mechanical skills and must be capable of understanding the intricacies of the various types of elevators used at NIST. He/She must be able to recognize any malfunction and assure that it is repaired with a minimum of downtime. The incumbent must be capable of exercising sound judgment in times of emergency.

There are no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to lead or supervise. Applicants must meet the screen out elements and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done.
