Duties

Work under the supervision of the Pipe Shop supervisor performing standard plumbing installations and repairs Make repairs by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken pipe, and leaky drains. Hook up water heaters, disposal units, faucets, toilets, drinking fountains, showers, etc. Measure, cut, bend, and thread pipe Caulk and seal elbows, union joints, faucets, and shower drains

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
• Suitable for Federal employment
• Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination
• Must obtain backflow certification within one year of hire
• Position requires call back or emergency overtime
• Bargaining Unit Position: Yes - Washington Area Metal Trades Council (WAMTC, AFL-CIO)

Qualifications

There are no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education, and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance mechanic duties, such as standard plumbing installations and repairs, without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out elements and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
