Duties
The incumbent serves as the working leader of the Construction Shop of Facilities Maintenance Division. The incumbent leads others in performing 1) maintenance installation and remodeling work, including metal partition, framing, etc.; 2) initial installation and remodeling work, including metal partitions, framing, floors, laboratory benches and cabinets, shelving, blackboards, hardware, suspended ceilings etc.; 3) cabinetmaking, including furniture, special shipping cases for models, etc.; 4) building of small structures using wood and corrugated metal; 5) construction of forms for walks, curbs, and other concrete work; 6) repair of plaster and masonry walls; 7) provide trimming and cutting services; 8) wallpapering, brush, roll, and spray painting in offices, laboratories, machine rooms and other areas; 9) spray work in the Paint Shop spray booth; 10) refinishing work on cabinets, doors, woodwork, chairs, desks, floors, etc.; 11) cutting, installation, and glazing of glass and transparent plastic, and 12) applying special finishes such as epoxy, varnishes, urethanes and lacquers.
Receives major work authorizations and work schedules from the Shop Supervisor. In the Supervisor's absence or preoccupation with other duties, receives Shop Orders and schedules directly from the Project Management Group Scheduler and reviews them to determine the type and magnitude of each job. Coordinates new Shop Orders with those of other shops and with current work, and assigns specific craftsmen to jobs depending upon job talents required. Determines the priority of M-Slip and minor work authorizations, coordinates them with current jobs, and completes himself/herself or assigns them to specific craftsmen to complete.
Works with customers to develop customer's ideas into the design and layout of a finished job.
Provides updates to the Construction Shop Foreman/Supervisor on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees); and will approve leave requests in the absence of the Construction Shop Foreman/Supervisor. This position does have the responsibility of "out of hours" callback response.

Qualifications
There is no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance mechanic leader duties without more than normal supervision. Applicants must also meet the following screen-out elements: Ability to manage and lead a construction maintenance program; (includes developing and implementing a construction maintenance program, establishing priorities, assigning work, balancing workloads, evaluating employees' performance, training, and establishing internal procedures). Ability to operate a Forklift, multiple aerial lifts such as single man lifts, scissor lifts, aerial boom lifts, and be competent in erecting scaffolding as needed.
