You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FITNESS SPECIALIST in the MORALE WELFARE RECREATION DIVISION of NAVAL STATION.

Duties

You will administer the fitness and fitness instructional program. You will serve as expert on matters of the use of indoor and outdoor facilities including gymnasium(s), weight rooms, cardiovascular fitness rooms and running tracks to accommodate the comprehensive base fitness program. You will plan, organize, develop, manage, and supervise diverse and comprehensive physical fitness-related special events program, such as tournaments, individual and team competitions, etc. You will conduct staff training in fitness related programs. You will supervise recreation assistant, custodial workers and maintenance workers/laborers in the fitness center along with group exercise instructors and contract personnel.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Incumbent is subject to work an uncommon tour of duty to meet program requirements including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Possesses current certification in fitness/health industry through a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited organization.
  • Possesses current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Firs Aid Certification.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing and managing physical fitness programs designed to meet mandatory fitness requirements for military personnel and personal wellness and fitness programs for other customers; 2) Identifying training requirements and implementing training programs for all assigned personnel, contract workers, and volunteers; 3) Conducting staff training in fitness related programs; 4) Ensuring safety equipment and protective clothing/gear are worn when mandated by regulations; 5) Reviewing research publications and health journals to ensure currency in methodology and philosophy for health and fitness programs; 6) Managing the Fitness-related Special Events Program. WORK ENVIRONMENT:Approximately 50% of the work is performed in an office/interior work environment and 50% under a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions such as gymnasiums, playing fields, running tracks, and road courses, etc. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Substitution of education for experience:

Have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
Have successfully completed two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree.
OR
Have obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. Percentage of education plus percentage of experience must equal 100%.
