You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Electrical) in the Submarine Electrical Branch (275), Electrical Enginceering and Planning Division(270), Engineering and Planning Department (200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will select, adapt, interpret and apply guidelines, precedents and engineering principles and practices. You will complete work on scheduled completion dates for various project phases to satisfy production requirements. You will perform review of drawings, material specifications, test procedure, and other documents pertaining to assigned complex projects for technical adequacy, compliance and quality requirements. You will act as a troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of technical engineering problems. You will provide solutions and technical decisions to the shops for repair and modification to enable the structure/component/system to perform its intended function.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience preparing technical engineering documents to provide waterfront engineering services for submarine systems and ship alterations; Experience developing status reports and briefings for major electrical engineering projects; Experience applying knowledge of nuclear submarine electrical installations to include, but not limited to lighting distribution, ship service/emergency generators, electrical propulsion control systems, internal communication systems, metering/alarm systems and SUBSAFE systems and components Experience applying knowledge of engineering aspects unique to nuclear powered submarines with specific knowledge of special interface and control requirements for nuclear propulsion plant (or Reactor Plant Planning Yard) cognizant compartments, systems, and secondary containment boundaries; Experience using the latest developments and techniques to solve problems not treatable by traditional or accepted methods.
