You will serve as a Supervisory Health Physicist in the Health Physics Branch, Radiation Health Division, Radiological Control Office, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine.
Duties
You will manage the Radiation Dosimetry and Exposure Program to assess the impact of nuclear work in the Shipyard and on personnel performing the work.
You will establish the program goals and objectives, monitor progress and adjust as necessary.
You will administer a system of personnel exposure control by collecting, reading and reporting/documenting dosimetry devices.
You will audit medical records of shipyard radiological workers for compliance with pertinent requirements, research and prepare required source material for evaluation of radiation claims.
You will provide procedures/training in the operation, control and interpretation of data from RADIAC equipment.
You will assign work; provide technical guidance, personnel, performance, position management; identify training needs; interview/select candidates for vacancies; recommend promotions/awards; resolve disciplinary issues and administer EEO policies.

- You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Incumbent must be physically qualified for radiation work as prescribed by NAVMEDCOM requirements set forth in NAVMED INST P-5055.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Occasional overtime may be required.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the Basic Requirements, in order to qualify for this position your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience with nuclear engineering/health physics concepts, principles and practices, and administrative techniques, applicable to planning and carrying out an assigned Shipyard radiation health program.
Experience using quantitative measurement and engineering techniques for evaluating the magnitude of radiation health conditions and the physiological and biological effects of radioactivity on the health and well-being of workers and the methods of preventing adverse effects.
Experience auditing medical records for compliance and maintaining accountability for all personnel dosimeter equipment.
Experience documenting required radiological data and providing procedures/training in the operation, control, and interpretation of data from RADIAC equipment.
Experience using engineering and health physics sampling techniques and instrumentation.
Experience writing comprehensive technical/scientific/engineering reports.
Experience supervising operations of Physical Science Technicians.

Education
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual.
The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.
OR
- Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in 1. above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph 1.
You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts. Failure to do so will result in an ineligible rating.
