This is a term position located in the Legal Division's Office of Oversight at the Consumer of Financial Protection Bureau. As a Paralegal Specialist, you will provide legal support to staff attorneys on complex, professional legal-matters in connection with the Bureau's oversight work.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the CN-52, broadly equivalent to the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the CN-52, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the CN-51 grade level in the Federal service. (For qualification purposes, the CN-51 is broadly equivalent to the GS-11). Specialized experience for this position is conducting legal research in support of staff attorneys, including:
Experience working with attorneys, including creating and maintaining knowledge management or tracking systems to manage and maintain record copies of official correspondence or other resources, and accessing them electronically; AND
Experience proofreading official correspondence and public-facing communications; AND
Experience using one or more of the commonly used computerized legal or legislative reference systems: Congress.gov, Quorum, Congressional Quarterly, Bloomberg Government, Intranet Quorum (IQ), Lexis Nexis, Lexis Advance, Westlaw, and/or Westlaw Next; AND
Experience corresponding with a congressional office or working with legal counsels or witnesses in connection with oversight activities, congressional hearings, congressional depositions, briefings, or other legal or legislative proceedings; AND
Experience checking legal citations, doing legal research, and/or performing legal analysis in preparing reports, summaries, briefs and other correspondence for review/approval by attorneys.
Specialized Experience: For the CN-51, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the CN-40 grade level in the Federal service. (For qualification purposes, the CN-40 is broadly equivalent to the GS-09).
Specialized experience for this position is conducting legal research in support of staff attorneys, including:
Experience working with attorneys including maintaining knowledge management or tracking systems to manage and maintain record copies of official correspondence or other resources, and accessing them electronically; AND
Experience proofreading official correspondence and public-facing communications; AND
Experience using one or more of the following computerized or legislative reference systems: Congress.gov, Quorum, Congressional Quarterly (CQ), Bloomberg Government, Intranet Quorum (IQ), Lexis Nexis, Lexis Advance, Westlaw, and/or Westlaw Next; AND
Experience conducting legislative research in support of Attorneys; AND
Experience assisting attorneys in the preparation of reports, summaries, briefs or other correspondence for review/approval by attorneys.
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
OR
Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the specialized experience requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the education requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of 36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours may be used to combine education and experience.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Education Requirements:
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the
