This position is located in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, Budget and Financial Management Division, Fiscal and Travel Services Unit. The incumbent is responsible for recording obligations for grant and non-grant activity, ensuring payments are processed in accordance with over-arching authorities, ensuring balances are accurate in the Unified Financial Management System, including quarterly open obligation certification and proper accrual adjustments.

The duties and responsibilities for a 0501 Supervisory Financial Management Specialist generally include, but are not limited to, the following:
Analyzes and resolves complex issues related to financial aspects of Department programs, including budget planning and decision-making.
Uses a financial management information system to enter and adjust financial data, and create a wide variety of spreadsheets, reports, forms, and schedules.
Provides technical guidance regarding the recording and control of obligation and document control registers to monitor, reconcile, and control obligation of funds.
Develops or implements policies and procedures in financial management.
Monitors fiscal operations and provides solutions when risks are identified.
Serves as point of contact regarding the overall financial audit process, including drafting and routing management's responses.
Supervises, guides, and mentors financial management staff.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- You must successfully pass a security/background investigation and a drug screening.
- You must be a current permanent Department of Justice employee with competitive status or a CTAP/RPL eligible candidate.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Supervisory Financial Management Specialist, (GS-0501-14), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade.
If you are a current Department of Justice employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade.
To qualify for the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties:
Using a financial management system to input, adjust, or analyze financial data.
Advising on financial management procedures or regulations as it pertains to official travel obligations, expenditures or accruals.
Providing financial or budgetary advisory services to senior management or customers regarding the full range of financial management services.
Providing audit liaison services for internal or external audits.

Education
