This position is located in the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), with one vacancy in College Park, MD. Duties

As an IT Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Provide system administration for all National Weather Service hardware and software, including Linux, associated computer and software systems. Provide application and program support to subject matter experts by developing and performing installation, configuration, and software maintenance of new and existing application programs. Collaborate, and advise management and users to ensure awareness, build consensus and provides support to resolve issues through communication, technical assistance, and written instructions to achieve system-wide alignment and improve system security and operational reliability. Evaluate organizational data needs and participates in strategic discussions with Center management. These duties are described at the GS-13 level. The GS-12 is a developmental position.

To qualify at the GS-13 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Providing application and program support for software installations, networks and Information Technology (IT) security; Installing and maintaining software; and Developing and implementing plans for Information Technology (IT) systems and programs.
