This is an open continuous announcement with bi-weekly cutoffs, starting 12 August 2024. Applications received prior to the cutoff date will be reviewed and possibly referred for consideration.
Duties
Prepares and cooks a variety of menu items. Working alone or with the assistance of a higher-grade cook or supervisor, prepares a variety of foods and desserts according to menu requirements.
Follows health and safety precautions to ensure safe preparation and storage of food items. Monitors and maintains appropriate temperature of all food items throughout preparation and service.
Brings prepared foods from preparation area to refrigerators or serving area. Picks up items needed for menu preparation, rotating food inventories as appropriate. Takes inventory to determine ordering requirements.
Operates kitchen equipment designed to mix and cook food items. Uses, cleans and maintains power kitchen equipment. Keeps cooking utensils cleaned and ready for use.
When necessary, drives motor vehicle to include a cargo van which has an approximate vehicle weight of 9,000 pounds. The driver loads and arranges retail and food items so that they do not shift/fall and damage the material.
Requirements

- Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability determination.
- Position, duty hours, location and/or activity are subject to change based on mission requirements.
- Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include medical examination.
- Incumbent may be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of food preparation principles and practical understanding of the physical processes that occur in cooking.
Knowledge of proper cooking temperatures and preparation methods for a variety of foods.
Ability to schedule and coordinate preparation of a number of different foods in order to ensure that they are ready for service at the appropriate mealtime.
Knowledge of food safety and proper storage methods for hot and cold food items in order to prevent loss or illness due to spoilage.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly standard recipes, and detailed cooking instructions.
Requires knowledge of height, weight, width and length of vehicle in order to judge overhead and side clearances, turning radius and braking distance.
Knowledge of safety and traffic rules.
Highly Preferred Criteria:
Possesses or can obtain a food handler's certification.
