About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Clinical Support Nutrition Care Food Production and Services at the Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Moore, in Columbus Georgia. Normal working hours are 8 hour rotating shifts to include weekends and holidays. The primary purpose is to serve as a Cook Leader leading employees in the accomplishing trades and labor work.
Duties
Ensure recipes, supplies, equipment and cooking utensils are available for use.
Order food in accordance with daily and weekly menu requirements.
Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems.
Complete food prep work along with other cooks and food service workers.
Maintain rotation of food inventories to prevent spoilage.
Reinforce supervisor’s instructions through demonstration of proper work techniques.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks such as answering workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. I am skilled in reviewing all recipes, supplies, equipment and cooking utensils are available for use. I have the ability to prepare menu items in accordance with safety standards and maintain rotation of food inventories to prevent spoilage. I have the ability to weigh, measure and assemble ingredients for regular and modified menu items. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 30 pounds and constant standing and walking. May occasionally be required to lift over 60 pounds (e.g., pans of meat, containers of milk).
WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent is subject to injuries from equipment used; and is exposed to cooking oils, grease and heat from ovens. There is danger of slipping on floors that are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverage has been dropped.
