Duties
Set up and replenish salad bar, serve hot foods on cafeteria lines, and portion food for individual servings on trays in accordance with instructions.
Provide instructions to workers received from the supervisor, and start work by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led.
Operate a variety of kitchen equipment which utilizes gas, electricity, steam, or microwave heat sources to prepare a variety of foods.
Set up and replenish salad bar, serve hot foods on cafeteria lines, and portion food for individual servings on trays in accordance with instructions.
Prepare a variety of menu items to include regular and special diet entrees and desserts.
Ensure food code worksheets are documented daily with the amount of food prepared, leftover, or discarded, and with the names of persons assigned to prepare menu items.
Adjust standardized recipes for the number of servings required in large quantity cooking.
Issue change fund to tellers and verify receipts and funds at meal end.
Answer workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- A pre-placement and annual medical examination are required.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 30 pounds is required.
- Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
- This position may require a seasonal Influenza vaccination that is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks in assigning worker's instructions. I am skilled in answering workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. I am skilled in reviewing and verifying all recipes, supplies, equipment, and cooking utensils that are available for use. I am skilled in preparing menu items in accordance with safety standards and maintain rotation of food inventories to prevent spoilage. I am skilled in weighing, measuring and assembling ingredients for regular and modified menu items.

Physical Effort- Work involves frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 30 pounds and constant standing and walking. May occasionally be required to lift over 60 pounds (e.g., pans of meat, containers of milk).
Working Conditions-Incumbent is subject to injuries from equipment used; and is exposed to cooking oils, grease and heat from ovens. There is danger of slipping on floors that are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverage has been dropped.
