You will serve as a RANGE CONTROLLER (FIRE DESK OPERATOR) in the RANGE OPERATIONS SECTION, RANGE CONTROL BRANCH, RANGE AND TRAINING AREA MANAGEMENT DIVISION of MARINE CORPS BASE.
Duties
You will be responsible for the safety and real-time three dimensional de-confliction of live fire and non-live fire training events, to include non-participating aviation units operating within the Camp Lejeune special use air space.
You will in accordance with FAA Order JO 7400.2, coordinate real time use of Camp Lejeune special airspace for military and non-military aviation assets with the Controlling Agency.
You will be responsible for the Firing Desk interface with the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) and the accurate collection of daily range, training facility, airspace, and sea space usage data.
You will function as on the job training instructor in support of Range Operations for applicable Marine Corps Orders.
You will ensure that all activities conducted within ranges and training areas are in accordance with applicable Department of the Navy and Marine Corps Orders and local regulations as they pertain to live fire and non-live fire training activities.
You will be designated as the medical evacuation coordinator between training units in the field and emergency response agencies, and relay critical information.

- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position requires rotating shift work.
- Must possess or complete the Inter-Service Range Safety Course (Intermediate) within 1 year of assignment to the position.
- Must complete all Range Control training and pass the written exam within the first 90 days of assignment to the position.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Scheduling and monitoring use of ground, sea, and aviation training ranges and areas; utilizing radar, video, and communications systems (e.g. Integrated Range Status System (IRSS), Highway Information System (HIS), Emergency Range Shutdown System (ERSS), etc).

Education
In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on equivalent education as follows:
- Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR
- Successfully completed 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR
- Successfully complete an LL.M., if related to the position being filled OR
- Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
