The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an IT Specialist, Cyber Defense Infrastructure within the CCJ6 Directorate of United States Central Command as the subject matter expert in the Cyber Operations Section within the Cybersecurity Branch.
Duties
Supports USCENTCOM Defensive Cyberspace Operations.
Keeps abreast of emerging technology to predict future cybersecurity needs.
Assist in identifying, prioritizing, and coordinating the protection of critical cyber defense infrastructure and key resources.
Enhances overall Cybersecurity Program and Cyber vigilance campaign efforts.
Prepares budget, technical reports, staff studies, and briefings.

- CONT.. Advanced, the employee of this position must achieve the appropriate cybersecurity certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
- A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.

- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Work may require periodic TDY travel (CONUS and OCONUS) aboard commercial and military aircraft; including hostile areas of operations.
- Employee is subject to recall during off-shift hours seven days week/twenty-four hours per day.

Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes application of a wide range of DoD cyber, cloud and network security concepts, principles, and practices. Work encompasses complex and uncommon interfaces and policies and practices; sources of technical data to evaluate new devices, proposals, and approaches; and a good understanding of contracting procedures and legal requirements.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a full range of DoD cyber, cloud and network security concepts principles, concepts, practices, products and services (including systems software, database software, immediate access storage technology), and methods for evaluating risk and vulnerability, implementing mitigating improvement, and disseminating IT security tools and procedures.
Knowledge of a wide range of DoD cyber, cloud and network security concepts, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of computer network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and protocols (e.g., Transmission Control Protocol [TCP] and Internet Protocol [IP], Open System Interconnection Model [OSI], Information Technology Infrastructure Library, current version [ITIL]).
Knowledge of a broad range of telecommunications concepts and principles, operating modes, systems, media, equipment, equipment configuration, and related software systems, processes and procedures to assess and advise on vulnerability to attack from a variety of sources (e.g., espionage, disruption of services, destructive programs/applications) and procedures and methods for protection of systems and applications.
Knowledge of the DOD and Air Force budgetary system, contract procedures, and legal requirements and how they apply to planning and programming of communications systems
Ability to analyze/apply specialized DoD network and cloud security methods and analytical techniques involving DoD telecommunications and network security systems (e.g., systems compatibility, circuits, switches, distribution, satellite linkages, and networking). Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
