About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation.

Duties

Repair and replace aircraft structural components to include stingers, longerons, bulkheads, beams, and aircraft skin according to drawings, blueprints, directives, technical manuals and safety procedures. Fabricate structural parts, forming blocks, and shaping metal using stretching, shrinking, and other metal forming techniques. Mix and apply fiberglass materials.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a respirator certification.
  • May be subject to rotating shift work.

Utilizing a wide range of hand tools associated with the sheet metal trade in order to complete required work assignments. Replacing a variety of sheet metal items. Working under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Sheet Metal Worker (Aircraft), WG-08, without more than normal supervision. Having the ability to perform common Sheet Metal Worker (Aircraft) duties assisting journey-level employees in the operation of power machines by holding and feeding metal parts. Assisting in assembling and installing parts and units by getting tools and supplies, carrying materials, and holding materials in place during operations. Working under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal WorkDexterity (Assembly Disassembly Reassembly etc)Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging)Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires moderate to strenuous effort. The work involves physical exertion, prolonged standing, climbing, working in cramped or awkward positions, reaching, lifting, and bending. May frequently lift items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and when heavy lifting is in excess of 35 pounds is require the employee will obtain assistance of others or use mechanical handling equipment. WORKING CONDITION: Works inside (occasionally outside) in noisy surroundings. Exposed to hazard of injury from cuts when working with sharp metal edges. Subject to all weather conditions. Danger of falling from overhead. Subject to skin rash in handling plastic resins and fiberglass materials, cuts, bruises, and burns. May be required to wear safety shoes, gloves, and ear protection. May be subject to shift work. May be required to work in cramped and confined spaces.
