The Office of Inspector General, Pathways Internship Program is designed to attract students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions with paid opportunities to explore Federal careers while still in school. This position is located in the Audits Division. As a student trainee, the ideal candidate for this position is majoring in accounting or a related field of study. The Partnership for Public Service named SBA OIG as being the #1 OIG in the Federal Government.

Duties

Gathers background information and documentation on assigned audit, evaluation, and inspection projects to include missions and functions, resources and applicable laws, regulations, guidance, and studies. Prepares working papers and assists with maintaining files in audit documentation system and tracking of project milestones. Assists auditors in the compilation, arrangement, and evaluation of data to be included in work papers, documents, and reports. Examines routine documents and records for accuracy and identifies discrepancies. Discusses results and conclusions with senior auditors.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • You must successfully complete a background investigation. Candidates who do not respond to the background investigation request by the pre-determined due date, will be disqualified.
  • You must be enrolled in an accredited education institution.
  • You must sign a Pathways Intern Participant Agreement.
  • Candidates who are determined to be qualified for this position, must complete an additional online assessment through Talent Plus. You must complete the Talent Plus Assessment within 48 business hours of being sent the email notification.

Qualifications

GS-0599-04: Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study OR Successful completion of the requirements for an Associate's degree (please verify by attaching a copy of your college transcripts). Academic year of undergraduate education (post-high school study): A minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours at an accredited college or university; or A minimum of 36 weeks at an accredited business, technical, vocational, or qualifying educational institution for at least 20 classroom hours per week. Additional information on the qualification requirements is outlined in the OPM Qualifications Standards Handbook of General Schedule Positions. It is available for your review on OPM's Qualifications website. All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on the closing date of this vacancy announcement.
