This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, Office of Climate and Health Equity, Office of Environmental Justice located in Washington, District of Columbia.
Duties
The Director of the Office of Environmental Justice will provide strategic leadership, serve as principal advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Health, and collaborate with key policy leaders to protect the health of people throughout the U.S. in the face of pollution and other environmental hazards, especially those experiencing a higher share of exposures and impacts.
Other duties and responsibilities of this position include:
Leading the advancement and integration of environmental justice in the development, evaluation, and implementation of HHS policies, programs, and partnerships.
Overseeing day-to-day operations that include establishing and directing programs, and developing and supporting the implementation of policy solutions that decrease disproportionate environmental hazards and health risks for vulnerable populations.
Serving as international and federal subject matter expert on environmental justice and on actions to reduce disparate impacts of pollution and other environmental hazards that affect health.
Providing supervisory oversight to direct reporting administrative and support staff.

Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.
Specialized Experience:
GS-15: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-14 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (3) of the (4) duties listed below:
Participating in the formulation of priorities, legislative proposals, and/or strategies related to environmental justice.
Gathering and/or coordinating environmental justice reports and assessments.
Preparing and disseminating information on environmental health hazards and health services and education.
Leading and/or mentoring employees on work related matters.
