THESE ARE NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITIONS.
These National Guard positions are GS-2181-13 HELICOPTER FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2460000 and are part of the MO TASMG Shop.
APPOINTMENT FACTORS: These are Permanent Excepted Service positions. These are non-bargaining positions.
Duties
Serves as rotary wing Instructor Pilot (IP).
Trains and evaluates aviators on basic and advanced flight techniques.
Incorporates precision, non-precision, and GPS route navigation and instrument approaches in all mission planning and must be knowledgeable in all aspects of their operations.
Maintains and studies current and complete files of aeronautical publications, navigation charts, instrument approach procedures, air traffic control procedures.
Serves as rotary wing Instrument Flight Examiner (IE).
Conducts initial instrument standardization rides for new air crew members and as a minimum conducts annual check rides for assigned and attached pilots.
Serves as rotary and/or fixed wing Standardization Instructor Pilot (SIP).
Serves as rotary wing Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP) and/or Functional Check Pilot (FCP).
Performs ground maintenance operational checks, trouble shooting, rotor smoothing. Minimizes rotary wing vibration to ensure reduce time before overhaul (TBO) items and extend component life.
Serves as Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) carrying out a variety of duties to provide a productive aviation safety program for the Army Aviation Support Facility.
Prepares for safety, environmental, hazardous communication, occupational health, and other inspections.
Serves are Maintenance Test Pilot (ME)/Functional Check Pilot (FCP) Evaluator.
Manages the Aviation Mission Survivability (AMS) Program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Incumbent must possess and continue to maintain a US Army Class II Flight Physical.

- This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Missouri National Guard prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

Qualifications
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Supervisor must verify that selected individual occupies a compatible military position. Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (grade inversion).
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must be a rated pilot on flying status; based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings. Must possess at least one year on-the-job experience and a competent understanding of the basic principles and concepts of this position.
GS-13 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess two years specialized experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), providing instruction, evaluation and examination of rated pilots and instructor pilots in flying techniques; and experience must reflect qualification competencies in the following three factors: the aircraft operated; the nature and purpose of assignments, and the degree of hazard. The specialized experience must demonstrate your ability to operate a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation; review and analyze mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; file flight plans and conduct crew briefings; perform aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments; perform or supervise work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance; competently conduct or supervise the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks; and develop plans and policies, monitor operations, and advise commanders; and experience that demonstrates knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures; unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with appropriate policies, regulations, and directives.
Must be a qualified Instructor Pilot for one or more of the following helicopters: Attack Helicopter (AH-64); Cargo Helicopter (CH-47); Utility Helicopter (UH-60 series), (LUH-72 series)

Education
Must have a high school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is optimum. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
