You will serve as a HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (MIL) for TRANSIENT PERSONNEL UNIT NORFOLK.
Duties
You will respond to customer requests by providing information, data interpretations, explanations, or analysis.
You will resolve personnel pay issues to ensure employees receive correct pay entitlements.
You will respond to pay, financial, and budget inquiries via email or other written means (e.g., reports, spreadsheets).
You will revise information from personnel records or files to maintain accuracy.
You will analyze military pay matters for compliance with regulations.
You will monitor personnel actions to ensure completion within designated time frames.
Requirements

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Using personnel policies, procedures, rules and regulations to maintain personnel records; 2) Counseling and aiding personnel with retirement, separation processes, timelines, and required documentation; 3) Conducting research, tracking, auditing transactions, obtaining and maintaining information for records and databases; 4) Assisting personnel with the preparation of required documentation associated with permanent change of station (PCS) orders, retirements, separations, travel claims, shipment of household goods, and overseas screening; and 5) Analyzing trends and making reports describing recurring problems or significant delays or inaccuracies, providing recommendations for improving processes and corrective actions taken.
