This is a training opportunity for a WATERFRONT SAFETY ADVOCATE in the PRODUCTION RESOURCE DEPARTMENT of PSNS and IMF.
This position will serve in a Bridge Program designed to give employees the opportunity to gain the competencies necessary to qualify for a GS-1101-11. If selected, you will be placed on a Detail NTE 1 Year. PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE IN YOUR SALARY DURING THE TIME FRAME OF THIS TRAINING OPPORTUNITY.
Duties
You will conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections in buildings, dry docks, on ships, piers and in various other facilities to identify, evaluate and provide recommendations, advice and guidance to employees, supervisors and managers.
You will ensure the that Operational Risk Management and safety concepts are planned into production work.
You will participate in the promotion of safety awareness through the engagement in production shop and project safety committees, development of safety campaigns, presentations and published mishap prevention articles using a variety of exhibits.
You will prepare reports of findings with recommendations to correct unsafe and unhealthful acts, conditions, or procedures which may cause or have caused injury, impairment or property and material damage.
You will assist the Environmental, Safety and Health Office in conducting mishap investigations.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
