You will serve as an ENGINERRING TECHNICIAN in the TEST ENGINEERING DIVISION of the ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will develop unique system turnover procedures and assume responsibility for systems under shipyard operations control. You will evaluate all aspects and make recommending alternatives or deviations from established procedures, particularly when testing novel performance characteristics of a new system or subsystem. You will act as an authoritative source for major decisions regarding work control and tagout isolations and resolve issues of conflicting requirements.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

To qualify for the ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN, GS-0802-12 position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year (52 Weeks) of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience providing expert technical/engineering advice in details of system isolation and operation of complex shipboard systems on a variety of conventional and nuclear vessel classes including one-of-a-kind vessels or systems. Experience applying methods and techniques of mechanical and electrical engineering sufficient to consider apects related to tag out and testing of ship systems. Experience responding to the complete spectrum of technical systems alterations, procedural and administrative changes. Experience applying versatile technical knowledge of the function and capability of the Shipyard to be able to assess or anticipate response to all elements or unusual demands.
