This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Division, Office of the General Counsel, located in Washington, District of Columbia. **This announcement will be open for 10 business days OR until the first 150 applications have been received, whichever happens first.**

Duties

The nature of the work requires familiarity with policies and procedures of the Office of the General Counsel, the Departmental programs and organizational interests of the various HHS agencies, and the viewpoints of the General Counsel and his Deputies, relating to the particular matters of concern. This work also involves detailed knowledge and familiarity of the functions, terminology, and activities of a legal services office operating at a cabinet-level agency dedicated to providing legal advice and services to a wide variety of programs and senior executives.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:GS-11: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing All of the following duties: 1. Reviewing office operations and functions to increase effectiveness, 2. Maintaining the scheduling of appointments, and/or travel for senior leadership, 3. Gathering of background information to prepare meetings, conference, and/or other forums, and 4. Preparing confidential and time sensitive correspondence, reports, and other documents for review by senior leadership. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related GS-12: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing All of the following duties: 1. Screening incoming phone calls and visitors; 2. Preparation and formatting of legal briefs, agreements, and correspondence; 3. Producing legal workload and status reports; 4. Maintaining the scheduling of appointments, and/or travel for leadership; and 5. Preparing confidential and time sensitive correspondence, reports, and other documents for review by senior leadership. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited. Time-in-Grade Requirement: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). You must include an SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one) that supports meeting this requirement with your application package.
