Duties
You will utilize Branch's high power laser facilities to lead experiments in nonlinear propagation of high-energy lasers and short laser pulses in the air under various atmospheric conditions.
You will utilize Branch's high power laser facilities to lead experiments to discover and characterize various interactions of high-energy lasers and short laser pulses with various materials.
You will supervise experimental research efforts being conducted in support of the Branch's programs at other facilities.
You will critically analyze scientific results and their relevance to the overall goals of the sponsoring agencies, and make interpretations and decisions concerning future experimental research.
You will develop and resource new scientific research programs.
You will attend and present work at scientific meetings.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or NP-03 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional physicist performing all or most of the following duties: 1.) Leading experiments in nonlinear propagation of short pulses in air, propagation of high energy lasers under various atmospheric and maritime conditions, and development of science and technology of high peak and average power laser propagation; 2.) Planning and supervising experimental research that utilizes high power laser facilities; 3) Conducting research and development in directed energy; 4.) Performing individual experimental, computational, and theoretical research; and 5.) Attending and presenting work at scientific meetings.

Education
Basic Requirements:

Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
or

Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
