You will serve as a Research Physicist within NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Duties

You will be responsible for the developing and running science and technology research programs, business management and personnel leadership. You will be engaged in understanding the plasma dynamics of the earths ionosphere and magnetosphere, and the interaction of radio waves with the ionospheric plasma. You will be responsible for theoretical and numerical simulations of plasma phenomenology. You will pursue funding, build and manage own programs as the principal investigator. You will participate in presentations, and other meetings for the purpose of identifying problem areas.

Qualifications

You will serve as a Research Physicist in the Plasma Physics Division, Code 6754 of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or NP-03 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional physicist performing all or most of the following duties: 1) research being performed with high-power HF ionospheric heating facilities; awareness of experimental techniques for ionospheric and laboratory plasma, over-the-horizon-radar experimentation, and artificially generated ionospheric plasma disturbances; 2) experience with the effects of ionospheric irregularities, structuring and turbulence on electromagnetic wave propagation; and 3) familiarity with experimental techniques for space and laboratory plasmas; observational diagnostics; radio transmission and reception; and to lead and perform data reduction and data interpretation efforts. This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: This position requires demonstrated experience in theoretical analysis and numerical simulations of non-linear plasma phenomenology and the associated data analysis and interpretation in the ionosphere and magnetosphere plasma environments. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess
  1. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
  1. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In either 1 or 2 above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
