You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Naval Architecture) in the Structural Enginceering and Planning Branch (256), Structural Engineering Division (250), Chief Engineer (240), Engineering and Planning Department (200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will select, adapt, interpret and apply guidelines, precedents and engineering principles and practices.
You will complete work on scheduled completion dates for various project phases to satisfy production requirements.
You will perform review of drawings, material specifications, test procedure, and other documents pertaining to assigned complex projects for technical adequacy, compliance and quality requirements.
You will act as a troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of technical engineering problems.
You will provide solutions and technical decisions to the shops for repair and modification to enable the structure/component/system to perform its intended function.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to lift and/or carry up to 44lbs in weight.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience reviewing technical working documents to ensure site preparation/restoration, pre-fabrication, rip out, modification, re-installation and testing of equipment and components are detailed.
Experience evaluating a variety of drawings, material specifications, test procedures and other documents pertaining to complex projects are accurate and in compliance with specifications.
Experience using material substitution knowledge to explore making rather than procuring materials to minimize shortages, delays and incur excess procurements.
Experience applying naval architectural engineering knowledge to solve problems on complex projects on shipboard naval architectural facilities, systems, and components.
Experience using related field applications of electrical and mechanical engineering to perform technical work and communicate with other engineering personnel to complete projects.
