This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of assigned sections of the program, including data collection, administrative records keeping, monitoring patient/program indicators, managing staff workload and productivity, collecting outcome measures, meeting multiple deadlines, measuring Veteran satisfaction, and meeting formal and descriptive performance measures. Incorporate screening and admission criteria based on established guidance for program eligibility, prioritization of subsets of the homeless Veteran population, VA/HUD/Public Housing Agency (PHA) requirements, and other policies, regulations, or laws pertaining to program administration. Serve as the first-line supervisor of specific sections/teams and assist with other areas as assigned, providing supervision and programmatic support in meeting the needs of homeless and justice involved Veterans referred to the program. Complete performance appraisals and assign related performance ratings, approves awards, and initiates performance-based corrective action, as needed. Receive and complete consults requesting services from interdisciplinary team members and from other mental health professionals on complex, difficult cases, using advanced practice skills and expertise. Assess Veterans identified as appropriate for HJCR programs, facilitating admission and/or referral to appropriate medical and psychiatric services. Evaluate Veteran situations, abilities, and capabilities, arriving at a reasoned conclusion including level of vulnerability and related prioritization for admission. Provide orientation and on-going training for team members, conduct staff development programs, and assist in providing opportunities to help staff maintain their mental health professional practice skills and acquire new knowledge in contemporary treatment modalities. Manages interpersonal relationships with frontline staff, program leaders, and other management teams. Work with the Veteran, family members, and/or significant others, to develop psychosocial treatment plans including goals for program participation and clinical treatment. Utilize available resources, to coordinate Veteran care through linking and referring to VA medical center facilities/programs, VA Regional Offices, together with other VA and non-VA services. Coordinate access to community services on behalf of homeless and justice involved Veterans, developing procedures for use of these services by associated staff. Serve Veterans with frequent and severe crises, who lack family or an adequate community support network, are poor at self-monitoring, who have poor history of treatment participation or success, or have significant deficits in coping skills which require continuing professional psychosocial support. Using varied modalities of care, find suitable means to help Veterans cope with stressful situations. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship - You must be a citizen of the United States English Language Proficiency - You must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) Education and/or Experience Combination - You must possess a master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. Note: A doctoral degree in Social Work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in Social Work. License or Certification - You must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: Supervisory Social Worker, GS-0185-12 Licensure Requirement - You must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Experience Requirement - You must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-11 include, but are not limited to: assessing and documenting identified behaviors or symptoms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and/or intimate partner violence; use of clinical social work skills; maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality per policies, handbooks or directives; acting as an advocate with appropriate community service providers and agencies when it serves the best interest of the patient and family members/caregiver; independently assessing the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members, identifying the patient's strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and psychosocial acuity. In addition to the experience above, you must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. Ability to provide staff training and development. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Driver's License - The position requires significant travel in the community through use of a government vehicle or other individual arrangements, requiring a valid state driver's license. Preferred Experience: At least one year working with homeless and justice involved populations. References: VA Handbook 5005/120, Part II, Appendix G39 Physical Requirements: Must be in overall good health, able to sit at a desk working at a computer, engage in light to moderate physical activity including sitting, walking, bending, and carrying supplies. Social Worker must be able to perform primarily light and sedentary duties with occasionally moderate physical demands, exercise patience, and control emotions, with reasonable accommodation, if necessary, without endangering the health and safety of the social worker or others. This position requires a valid state driver's license and local travel to provide community-based care to Veterans. The position requires significant travel in the community, through use of a government vehicle or other individual arrangements, to meet with representatives/stakeholders who provide assistance and support to Veterans in clinics, medical centers, Community Clinics, etc. This position also requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
