You will serve as a Civil Engineering Technician in the Rail Inspection and Certification Branch (725), Inspection, Test and Quality Assurance Division (720), Deputy Lifting and Handling Department at NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will analyze work to be accomplished in compliance with accepted civil engineering procedures.
Prepare man-hour and material estimates for maintenance, repair, alterations, improvements and construction.
Maintain inspection log/files of the equipment and correlate with the DEIS program.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Demonstrating knowledge and experience in maintenance/inspection of rails and trackage, including requirements of NAVFAC P-301 and NAVFACINST 11230.1.
Possessing knowledge in scheduling inspections, inspection techniques, planning and work processes in cognizant areas of nuclear and non-nuclear assigned equipment.
Utilizing experience with the work processes, inspections, planning and cost estimation for major construction, repair, alterations, improvements and general maintenance on ground railroad trackage, crane trackage and bridge crane trackage.
Communicating related engineering and planning fields including mechanical and electrical to a degree which permits technical understanding, communication and cooperation in areas of work interface with personnel of other engineering disciplines.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Exercising sound judgement in the use of principles, concepts, and practices of civil engineering to serve as the technical representative for assigned projects within the Shipyard.
Conduction inspections to provide information for decisions on remedial economic solutions for nuclear and non-nuclear equipment.
Understanding related engineering and planning fields including mechanical and electrical to a degree which permits technical understanding, communication and cooperation in areas of work interface with personnel of other engineering disciplines.
Reviewing contract specifications and engineering work documents to determine compliance with what is required and if in accordance with applicable standards and instructions.
