You will serve as a Foundry Worker in the Foundry Section (1440.1), Production Division (1440), Naval Foundry & Propeller of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will assist in charging, operating and maintaining foundry furnaces.
You will prepare castings for machining and inspection
You will examine castings and determine best methods to employ
You will complete tasks that require testing, troubleshooting and repairing according to specifications and safety regulations.
You will utilize oral and written instructions on job tasks from the supervisor, leader or senior grade employees.
Requirements

- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds in weight.
Qualifications

Experience preparing castings for machines and inspection by removing gates, risers, pins, or defective areas using air powered tools, as well as saws and blasting equipment;
Experience mixing cement for use in the molding process;
Experience operating hand grinders, power driven swing grinders, metal band saws, and abrasive cutoff saws to produce required finish;
Experience understanding the characteristics of metal to determine the proper tools and methods to be employed;
Experience charging, operating and maintaining foundry furnaces and ladles that are used to melt and pour a variety of metals and alloys.
