This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Provide a full range of Veteran care interventions, including individual, family, & group therapy, as well as specialized interventions such as behavior management consultations & systems or environmental interventions.
Present informed reports or educates multi-disciplinary teams on the use of newly proven or evidence-based intervention techniques.
Maintain current knowledge in assessment & therapy techniques by reviewing and/or participating in research; & by promoting, initiating, assisting, or engaging in program evaluation and/or other basic & applied research activities.
Provide education & training to others on Suicide Risk Assessment & interventions.
Work as a therapist with veterans & family members.
Work with local agencies & community resources to coordinate long-term objectives as necessary.
Ensure documentation meets local standards & those of any accrediting or oversight bodies.
Navigate VA clinical & administrative systems to appropriately access community resources, make timely referrals & coordinate services for Veterans.
Provide education & training, as needed, on suicide treatment options that become available & as appropriate provide recommendations for use.
Participate in on-going Gatekeeper Training program with clinical & non-clinical frontline staff to assure that they are aware of options for Veterans with whom they come in contact during crisis situations.
Work with community resources to assure that they are aware of how to recognize Veterans at risk for suicide & their options for getting these Veterans assistance.
Provide guidance & education to providers, Veterans, families & community agencies regarding suicide prevention, risk factors, assessment, intervention & treatment.
Conduct public speaking & teaching about the importance of educating VA employees & the community at large in suicide prevention.
Facilitate & liaison with other health care programs to effectively coordinate services.
Perform assessments & identify appropriate treatment options as it relates to current research in suicidology.
Incorporate co-occurring disorders into assessments, such as substance abuse problems, major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, poly-trauma, & chronic pain syndromes that often exist/co-exist in Veterans at risk for suicide, to ensure a comprehensive assessment & treatment plan.
Track all suicide attempts & Veterans with serious suicide ideation using the suicide assessment & screening tools.
Assure that all Veterans on the facility tracking list are being followed closely by the appropriate provider on a regular basis as determined by the SPC & the provider.
Disseminate, organize, & where possible, conduct evidence-based & promising, emerging interventions.
Obtain any relevant HIPAA clearances to allow transmittal of facility data on suicide attempts & individuals at risk to the VISN 19 MIRECC & the VISN 19 Mental Health Office.
Assure compliance with accrediting body standards related to suicide prevention.
Assist in the execution of ongoing program evaluation & data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of suicide prevention programming.
Ensure program compliance with national & local performance measures.
Ensure program compliance with all electronic health record documentation procedures.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship - Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency - You must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f)
Education and/or Experience Combination - You must possess a master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. Note: A doctoral degree in Social Work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in Social Work.
License or Certification - You must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.

Licensure Requirement - You must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
Experience Requirement - You must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-11 include, but are not limited to: assessing and documenting identified behaviors or symptoms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and/or intimate partner violence; use of clinical social work skills; maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality per policies, handbooks or directives; acting as an advocate with appropriate community service providers and agencies when it serves the best interest of the patient and family members/caregiver; independently assessing the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members, identifying the patient's strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and psychosocial acuity.
In addition to the experience above, you must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.
Driver's License - The position requires that the employee travels occasionally, requiring operation of a government vehicle. This position requires a valid state driver's license.
Preferred Experience: Experience with suicide risk assessment, management of high-risk patients, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, program development and/or management, providing consultation and support to clinical staff across the facility, reviewing sentinel events.

Physical Requirements: Must be in overall good health, able to sit at a desk working at a computer, engage in light to moderate physical activity including sitting, walking, bending, and carrying supplies. Social Worker must be able to perform primarily light and sedentary duties with occasionally moderate physical demands, exercise patience, and control emotions, with reasonable accommodation, if necessary, without endangering the health and safety of the social worker or others.
The position requires that the employee travels occasionally, requiring operation of a government vehicle. This position requires a valid state driver's license.
This position also requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
