You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the NAVAL STATIONS, MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT (HSM-40) of COMHSLWING.
Duties
You will manage the Corrosion Prevention and Control Program and conduct initial and refresher training.
You will manage the Respirator Protection Program for the command.
You will supervise and train the Emergency Reclamation Team.
You will interpret and implement instructions such as OPNAV M-5100.23, OPNAVINST (8000.16, 3750.6), NAVAIR (15-01-500, 01-1A-509, 17-1-125), DODINST 6050.5, MIL-STD-2161A(AS), and COMNAVAIRFOR 4790.2 (series).
You will ensure personnel receive pre-placement training, periodic medical surveillance evaluations and respirator fit testing/use as recommended by the Industrial Hygienist.
You will ensure required documentation is completed for aircraft/equipment exposed to large quantities of salt water/fire fighting chemicals.
You will comply with local unit and installation instructions and responsibilities.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position requires completion of Navy RPPM course, Respiratory Protections Program Management (Course A-493-0072) prior to appointment as the Command Respiratory Protection Manager.
- This position requires completion of Aircraft Corrosion course ( Course N-701-0013) or Aircraft Corrosion course ( Course C-600-3183).
- This position requires completion of Aircraft Paint Touch Up and Markings course (Course N-701-0014) or Aircraft Paint/Finish course (Course C-600-3182).
Qualifications
To qualify for a position GS-09, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying knowledge of safety regulations, policies, procedures and instructions relating to corrosion control, emergency reclamation and salvage of aircraft, and the operation of associated equipment and tools.
Experience utilizing knowledge of aircraft and aeronautical equipment corrosion prevention control, aircraft paint schemes and respiratory protection.
Experience using personal computer software to develop reports in applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
Experience completing Work Orders and performing historical queries to identify trends.
Experience ensuring personnel use required personal protection equipment (PPE) when and where required.
Experience reviewing reports and other information to aid in identifying specific areas of concern and determining steps required for improvement.
