You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST (Fire Safety Officer) in the Environmental Safety and Health Department, Code 155, of SUPERVISOR OF SHIPBUILDING BATH.

Duties

You will provide safety guidance to employees performing a range of duties at SSBA to ensure command-wide compliance with occupational safety and health laws and regulations promulgated by federal, state and local government entities. You will serve as the technical expert in specialized areas related to occupational safety and health issues for SSBA, and research and implement the latest changes/developments in safety and health laws and regulations as they apply to SSBA. You will provide guidance to personnel on SSBA occupational safety and health policies and procedures in the effective implementation of safety and health oversight functions. You will provide support to the Environmental, Safety and Health Manager in conducting risk assessments of production work assigned to SSBA employees. You will initiate and prepare correspondence to employees and other government agencies with regard to the administration of required occupational safety and health programs. You will be responsible for collecting, developing, implementing and maintaining assigned strategic occupational safety and health reports and metrics used to report data to SSBA and NAVSEA Headquarters. You will conduct unplanned event/mishap investigations and completes a detailed report, which will be provided to the Environmental, Safety and Health Manager. You will be responsible for attending contractor fire prevention and housekeeping inspections on assigned ship availabilities. You will be responsible for maintaining and implementing SSBA’s Fire Response Plan. You will be responsible for reviewing Ship’s Force (SF), Lead Maintenance Activities, and contractor work affecting damage control and fire response systems and capabilities.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: evaluating and planning fire and safety efforts (e.g., investigations, working conditions, mishaps or hazardous conditions) to execute a shipboard fire safety, prevention and response program for an industrial organization.
