About the Position: This position is located at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Santa Barbra, CA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

Provide oversight of the execution of Disability Evaluation System policies in accordance with federal statutes, Department of Defense regulations, and military inspection agencies. Coordinate with providers, Directors of Medical Services, or Directors of Aerospace Medicine to ensure the local process supports effective Disability Evaluation System processes. Consult with functional representatives to determine causes of Disability Evaluation System deviations, adverse trends and related impacts to determine actions to be taken or recommended to improve performance outcomes. Monitor appointing access timelines to maintain awareness of access-to-care availability, which includes recognizing appointing limitations and formulating alternative actions to ensure timely completion and accuracy requirements are met. Develop methods to identify members entering the Disability Evaluation System and methods to monitor those returned to duty, but require annual re-evaluation, ensuring annual assessments are accomplished within established timelines Identify trends, patterns, and problem areas to develop alternative courses of action necessary to meet Disability Evaluation System processing plan objectives and standards. Develop recommendations and prioritization for problems in performance, productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency to support timeliness and accuracy of case processing. Serve as the Physical Evaluation Board Liaison Officer between military members, staff and leadership.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes verifying medical records are complete; compiling data for reports; inputting data into an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Healthcare Management, Healthcare Administration, or Public Health. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
