About the Position: Physical Security Specialist for an IMCOM Installation and is responsible for physical security plans, procedures and inspections as well as key control. Provides guidance, recommendations, and assistance on security systems, physical protection devices, Visitor Control Center and personnel access controls.

Duties

Serves as Physical Security Specialist in developing policy and guidance for the physical security program at the Organization. Plans the accomplishment of assigned projects adhering to the general guidance, polices and objectives of the overall security program. Interprets regulations pertaining to physical security requirements of various items in the development or final stage in accordance with applicable regulations. Operates as an individual or as a team leader and is responsible for communicating, documenting, and monitoring findings for follow-up corrective actions. Conducts routine physical and internal security inspections unannounced, detecting deficiencies and violations of directives.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours that may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and overtime during crisis situations.
  • This position has Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. Incumbent must successfully complete the physical security course (7H-3aD/830-ASI H-3) and have one year experience in the field.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) advising staff on the administration of a physical security program; (2) resolving problems between physical security requirements and organizational missions; AND (3) consulting on plans for facilities' security systems to control ingress and egress from anti-sabotage efforts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Operations SupportOral CommunicationPersonnel Security and SafetyPhysical Security Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
