About the Position: The incumbent serves as an Antiterrorism Force Protection (AT/FP) Specialist at U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) providing planning support for the protection of in-transit forces and 32 Security Cooperation Offices (SCO).

Duties

Serve as an Antiterrorism Force Protection (AT/FP) Specialist at U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) providing planning support for the protection of in-transit forces and 32 Security Cooperation Offices (SCO). Principle staff officer and subject matter expert responsible for developing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the status of the force protection and antiterrorism programs for the Area of Focus (AOF). Serve as the SOUTHCOM technical authority on all matters involving AT/FP, physical security/security force operations for policy, procedures, and program status. Responsible for scheduling, validation, coordination, and training for exercise planning in Joint Training System (JTS) as part of the SOUTHCOM Joint Exercise Program. Assess and inspect subordinate AT/FP programs to ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and SOUTHCOM guidance and directives. Serve as Antiterrorism Officer for hosted events; responsible for conducting vulnerability assessments, developing AT/FP plans, to ensure the ability to protect DoD personnel and assets.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain U.S. personnel security clearance at the TOP SECRET (5) level with access to Special Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Position requires considerable (once or twice per month) travel by military and commercial aircraft.
  • Incumbent must be eligible to carry a firearm in accordance with DoD Standard to include the Lautenberg Amendment (the Domestic Violence Amendment to the Gun Control Act).

Specialized Experience required at the GS-12: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: Managing the organization's Antiterrorism Exercise Program to ensure compliance with local requirements; Possessing a wide range of security concepts and practices to analyze and/or resolve difficult and complex security problems; Evaluating the status of the force protection and antiterrorism programs for the Area of Operation; Reviewing threat information to develop recommendations for changing Area of Operation Force Protection Condition levels; Conducting staff assistance visits and command inspections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
