You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Safety and Occupational Health Division of COMNAVREG MIDLANT NORFOLK.

Duties

You will perform follow-up investigations to determine if corrective action has been taken and risk has been mitigated You will analyze safety and occupational health policies or procedures to identify deficiencies or recommend improvement to work processes. You will prepare reports of investigations to provide recommendations and prevent reoccurrences. You will resolve specific technical issues identified during program assessments, construction site visits, or industrial site-visits using safety and occupational health regulations, principles, or best practices. You will brief command personnel on safety program to cultivate a safety culture where everyone takes responsibility for their safety and safety of others. You will assist with the implementation and maintenance of the region’s Explosive Safety Program.  This includes performing inspections, assessments, and investigations as well as providing training and information.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating a 24-hour safety and occupational health program; 2) Advising principal staff member at tenant commands of safety and occupational health requirements, standards, and procedures; 3) Establishing guides and encouraging supervisors, employees and safety committee members to identify and eliminate hazardous equipment operations and unsafe working conditions; 4) Operation and application of core safety business lines which include Navy's Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), Explosives Safety/Radiation Safety, Traffic Safety and Recreational/Off Duty Safety (RODS) programs ashore.
