You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in the Facilities Operation and Maintenance Division, Public Works Department of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will conduct visual inspections and operational tests to determine the need for maintenance or repair work. You will perform maintenance on electrical, plumbing, pipefitting, or mechanical systems to maintain buildings and equipment. You will weld metal parts and structures that vary in size, shape, and thickness and require multiple welding passes. You will determine tools or equipment to use in performing preventive maintenance on utility or electrical systems. You will operate tools and equipment following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a clean and safe working environment.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MAINTENANCE MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. 1) Troubleshooting, repairing and installing a variety of systems for air cylinders, hydraulic, pneumatic, piping and cooling systems;2) Troubleshooting, repairing and installing electrical circuits, systems, fixtures and controls; and 3) Ensuring work is in compliance with specifications and completed within required time frames.
