Duties

You will apply a variety of painting techniques to a wide variety of surfaces, primarily interior and exterior finishing of large structures, houses, offices, buildings, and stationary and mobile or auxiliary equipment. You will repair drywall and plaster surfaces as well as make minor structural repairs to concrete and wood decks, window trim, etc. You will repair, construct, remodel and make alterations to wooden structures. You will plan and lay out work in accordance with drawings, sketches and blueprints.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license valid for vehicles up to 2 1/2 ton.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a Pool Operator's Certification, when assigned pool operator duties.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the WG-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MAINTENANCE MEHCANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION INCLUDING: 1) Preparing primers for application to surfaces; 2) Coating surfaces such as plaster, wallboard, concrete, aluminum, steel and wood using standard methods such as brushing, rolling and spraying; 3) Performing alterations to wooden structures; and 4) Following instructions laid out by blueprints to complete a job.
