About the Position: Fort Carson is a United States Army post located directly south of Colorado Springs in El Paso, Pueblo, Fremont, and Huerfano counties, Colorado, United States.
Duties
Perform the duties of Flight Simulator Training Instructor and/or Operator (simulator only) utilizing the motion and non-motion based CH-47 Transportable Flight Proficiency Simulator (TFPS).
Incumbent instructs/evaluates rated active Army, National Guard, and Reserve component. Instrument Examiner (simulator only) determine individual ability to perform duties as aviator/ instructor/examiner from a crew station.
Incumbent uses approved evaluation guidelines, to review records and verify that individuals being evaluated meets all prerequisites and ensures all required equipment is available for the flight.
Conduct a crew briefing on mission, weather, flight route, performance data, flight control transfer, and crew duties, including emergency duties.
Conduct Flight Simulator Training Instructor and/or Instructor Operator (simulator only) duties that involve training and evaluating Army rated aviators in IAW ATM (Aircraft Training Manual).
Provide training in instrument flight planning; precision handling and maneuvering of the aircraft, and instrument flight using aircraft navigational instruments and systems in conjunction with air navigational aids.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent required to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance for the duration of employment.
- Incumbent will be required to work non-standard hours (after regular duty hours and weekends).
- Business travel is occasionally required.
- This position requires a medical examination. The incumbent is required to lift up to 45 lbs.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Experience: Specialized experience is defined as:experience as a flight simulator training instructor and/or Instrument Examiner (simulator only) applying and evaluating basic and advanced flight techniques along with all aspects of instrument flight and navigation techniques;; experience developing training scenarios, lesson plans and courses of instruction for classroom or aircraft environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09)
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
