About the Position: Serves as the Deputy Chief of Police for the Directorate of Emergency Services, POM.
Duties
Oversee and direct work of the Police Division.
Is specifically responsible for ensuring accuracy and compliance with existing policies and procedures regarding police operations and administration.
Perform duties as the senior on duty supervisory DA Police Law Enforcement Officer within the Division, assist and guide the activities of subordinates engaged in law enforcement work.
Through supervisors, direct the activities of 50-60 civilians and contract support personnel to include monitoring progress of major projects.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. A pre-employment drug screen is required and annually thereafter.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
- The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position requires wearing chemical protection masks, gloves and other associated equipment.
- This position requires successful completion of the DACP/USAMPS Law Enforcement Academy.
- This position requires carrying firearms and passing periodic proficiency examination in the use of firearms.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
