About the Position: This position is with the US Army Installation Management Command, US Army Garrison, Presidio of Monterey Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshal Division, Monterey, CA. As Chief, Police/Provost Marshal Division, is technically and administratively responsible for the law enforcement operations at a medium garrison within the Installation Management Command (IMCOM).

Duties

Provide communication and dialogue with neighboring Law enforcement organizations to stay current on trends and patterns. Review the daily police blotter ensuring it is generally free of errors. Provide daily guidance and mentorship to subordinate supervisors. Determine incident response when the situation surpasses the control of patrol asset. Establish work priorities and adjust these priorities based on call volume and specified tasks. Verify patrol distribution plan and duty roster form provide adequate levels of coverage for all sections within the Police department. Responsible for the daily management and supervision of patrol operations. Supervise watch commanders in the oversight of their shifts to ensure legally sufficient actions and casework.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56. Requirements include: Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation. Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: ---Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • Signing of a DA Form 5019 acknowledging periodic random drug testing requirements is mandatory prior to being placed into this position.
  • Individuals not currently occupying a DoD TDP position must successfully complete a pre-appointment drug test prior to being placed into this position.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony in accordance with Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state drivers license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operators license.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Mission Essential Position: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Commander and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends.
  • Incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm. Must be proficient in the use of and qualify annually with assigned duty weapons.
  • The wearing of uniforms is required and the employee may be required to wear protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shield, and body armor.
  • A high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene will be maintained at all times.
  • Required to do shift work, rotating shifts, holidays, nights and weekends.
