The primary purpose of this position, AIRCRAFT ENGINE REPAIRER HELPER, WG-8602-05 Target 11, is to troubleshoot, repair, modify, and make final adjustments to a variety of conventional and/or modified non-fielded; prototype or pre-production; and/or extensively modified production aircraft engines.
Duty Title: Aircraft Engine Mechanic
Duties
Perform troubleshooting on a variety of conventional and/or modified non-fielded; prototype or pre-production; and/or extensively modified production aircraft engines that are dedicated to support research, development, test and evaluation; and in-service testing of potential replacement engine items (form, fit, function).
Receive, new, repaired, or modified parts, components, and assemblies.
Use a variety of hand and power tools.
Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area.
Read and interpret technical orders, manufacturers' manuals, maintenance bulletins, etc., to obtain the technical information needed for troubleshooting, assembling, and trimming engines.

- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
TARGETED POSITIONS: This position is a developmental WG-05 Target WG-11 position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-05). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, and crawl. Frequently handles items weighing up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, or other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated production areas. May work outside or inside in areas that are drafty and noisy, such as aircraft hangers. Stands on concrete, metal, or hard composition floors for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to grease oils, fuels, and solvents; to noise from drills and hammers; and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and injury from falls from scaffolds, ladders, or aircraft surfaces.
