The primary purpose of this position, AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC, WG-8602-11 POTENTIAL WG-12, is to test, trim, troubleshoot, repair, service and modify a multitude of aircraft and aircraft engines which are normally first article or pre-production that are specifically instrumented or modified. DUTY TITLE: JET ENGINE TEST CELL MECHANIC

Duties

1. Accomplish maintenance to test, trim troubleshoot, repair, service and modify aircraft and aircraft engines. 2. Insure proper use and control of Composite Tool Kit (CTK), special, and delicate precision tools and instruments. 3. Perform and maintain accurate documentation on all levels of engines maintenance and testing. 4. Perform all duties and maintenance procedures with strict observance of health and safety requirements. 5. Maintain professional working relations and demonstrates good communication skills with fellow employees, supervisors, and all persons they come in contact with, both military and civilian.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. This position may be filled at the WG-11 OR WG-12 level. Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. Trouble shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee stands, stoops, bends and reaches. Frequently handles items weighing up to 10 pounds and often lifts and carries assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. May be required to climb steps and ladders and stand on slippery or inclined surfaces. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee often works in clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated production areas. May work outside or inside in areas that are drafty and noisy, such as aircraft hangars. They stand on concrete or hard composition floors for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to grease and solvents, to noise from drills and hammers, and to the possibility of cuts and abrasions from handling tools and parts. Requires exposure to hazardous materials, extreme noises, exhaust and fuel fumes, wind, dust and extreme temperatures. Hazard of engine explosion and radiation dangers from ignition systems of certain engines.
