The primary purpose of this position, Aircraft Engine Mechanic Training Leader, WL-8602-11, is to assure the execution of the formal master training plan, provide training to subordinate employees while coordinating the efforts of one to two crews workers engaged in the troubleshooting, repair, modification, and final adjustments of a variety of aircraft engines.

Duties

Oversee the implementation of the master formal training plan; conduct training to refresh or broaden the skills of experienced engine mechanics working on a range of engine types and models, many of which are specially instrumented for test and test support activities; conduct training for lower-graded employees in occupational practices up to the intermediate level or higher. Administratively manage the maintenance on two to four aircraft engines, all removed modules of a specific type from all in-shop engines (i.e. augmentors), all removed parts and/or sub-assemblies or engine compressors and turbine rotors requiring balancing as assigned by the section supervisor or flight management. Ensure that all assigned engine records are properly maintained. Utilize and ensure workers under his/her direction follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area. Independently carries out reoccurring assignments in accordance with previous instructions, standard procedures, and established past practices.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to lead or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (Includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Trouble shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, and crawl. Frequently handles items weighing up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, or other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated production areas. May work outside or inside in areas that are drafty and noisy, such as aircraft hangars. Stands on concrete, metal, or hard composition floors for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to Hazardous materials, grease, oils, fuels, and solvents; to noise from drills and hammers; and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and injury from falls from scaffolds, ladders, or aircraft surfaces.
