The primary purpose of this position, , AIRCRAFT ENGINE REPAIRER, WG-8602-08 potential WG-8602-11 is to modify, troubleshoot and repair specially instrumented, standard, experimental, pre-production, production, and or modified aircraft engines used as test articles to include calibration and or repair of sub-assemblies and parts.
Duty Title: Aircraft Engine Mechanic
Duties
Receive aircraft engine/components, compressors and/or turbine rotors, examine work and appearance of aircraft engine component, compressor and/or turbine to diagnose or determine nature of overhaul.
Assemble aircraft engine/components, compressors and/or turbine rotors using approved recommendations to the degree of deviation from conventionally prescribed limits.
Perform special modification to aircraft engine/components, compressors and/or turbine rotors in accordance with instructions from personnel.
Requisition all necessary parts and supplies for engines/components assigned.
Conduct tests on components and controls related to fuel, lubrication, pneumatic systems from jet engines.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family.. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

Targeted Position: This position is a developmental position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-08). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. This position may be subject to a formalized training program and pay retention of 150% of the maximum rate of the basic pay is authorized for candidates requesting a Voluntary Change to lower Grade. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires active physical effort, moderate to heavy lifting, standing for prolonged periods and working in cramped and awkward positions. The employee stands, stoops, bends and reaches. Frequently handles items weighing up to 20 pounds and must be able to lift and carry assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds. Required to climb steps and ladders and stand on slippery or inclined surfaces. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee normally works in clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated production areas. May work outside or inside in areas that are drafty and noisy, such as aircraft hangars. Exposed to high noise levels, exhaust and fuels fumes, toxic materials, etc. Stand on concrete or hard composition floors for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to grease and solvents, to noise from drills and hammers and to possibility of cuts and abrasions from handling tools and parts. May be exposed to wind, dust and extreme temperatures. Could be put in danger of engine explosions, and danger of radiation exposures from engine ignition systems.
