You will serve as an Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanic Leader in the Aviation Maint/Material Division of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will demonstrate proper work methods to train journeymen, workers, new hires, etc. to update and improve knowledge, skills, techniques, methods, and procedures. You will disassemble, assemble, modify, overhaul, prototype, modify, and repair of production cell operation of aircraft ordnance, seats, canopies, CADs, fire bottles, guns, TLX and SMDC lines and more. You will diagnose trouble revealed by inspections and test. Determines extent of adjustment and repair necessary and performs the repairs. You will use hand and powered tools and precision measuring equipment, as well as operate ground support and prescribed test equipment. You will identify and verify incoming product and material for proper documentation and configuration. You will order and replace prescribed parts, check dimensions and tolerance of components to determine the serviceability, making corrections as necessary. You will also perform leader duties in addition to performing non-supervisory work. You will distribute portions of the work in such a manner to keep everyone in the crew productive. You will check work in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence procedures, methods, and deadlines were met. You will assure that safety, tool control, foreign object damage (FOO), Hazmat, and housekeeping rules are followed. You will provide technical assistance to personnel working on overhaul/repair tasks. You will investigate technical problems affecting production and apply corrective action, coordinating and working with support groups if required.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will lift items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from others or weight handling equipment.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Demonstrating proper work methods to train journeymen, workers, new hires, etc. to update and improve knowledge, skills, techniques, methods, and procedures; 2) Utilizing knowledge of the operating principles, functions, and technical orientation of aircraft mechanical, hydraulic, pneudraulic, environmental systems, subsystems, accessories, components, seats, canopies, guns and/or other Ordnance related items; 3) Diagnosing trouble revealed by inspections and tests, determining the extent of adjustment and repair necessary, and performing the repairs; 4) Assessing damaged aircrafts and conducting aircraft systems and subsystems troubleshooting and fault isolation; and 5) Using organizational computer-based business applications and inputting data to record discrepancies, create work orders, research/ order material, research product specifications, and produce documents/ instructions beneficial to an aircraft production environment.
