You will serve as an Aircraft Ordnance Systems Repairer in the Industrial Execution Department (6.2) of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will troubleshoot, dissemble, repair, modify, reassemble, test, install, arm and de-arm Aviation Life Support Systems systems; i.e. ejection seats, aircraft armament systems, oxygen systems, and aircraft egress systems. You will troubleshoot, repair and install ejection seats components such as; inertia reels, harness release actuators, and various other mechanically and ballistic operated mechanisms utilizing various principles of operation. You will visually inspect ballistics lines, tubes, hoses, and linkage for damage, deterioration, restrictions, and security of connections and mounting, and perform corrective maintenance as required. You will remove and install armament systems components/parts such as the M61A1 gun handling system and missile launchers and aircrafts fire extinguishers for multiple platforms. You will load cartridges, into aircrafts systems and remove as needed, following applicable handling, loading and checkout procedures. You will enforce safety, fire, security and housekeeping regulations, ensuring that material and equipment are properly and safely stored, protected~ and maintained.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Explosive Motor Vehicle Operators license.
  • Hearing protection must be worn for noise levels of 85 DBA and double protection is required for levels over 105 DBA.
  • Far vision correctable in one eye 20/20 and 20/40 in the other eye.

I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
