Duties

Develop technical skills in the outdoor recreation planning discipline to be able to analyze, evaluate, and coordinate matters involving recreation planning, development, and use under direction of a supervisor. Monitors and inspects the operation of public-use sites, permits, recreational facilities and/or concessions and reports issues; respond to inquiries, perform routine visitor contact. Review recreational program policies and assist in data analysis document preparation in environmental and project planning. Participate on interagency and/or interdisciplinary teams and committees to discuss recreation planning, management, policies, and procedures at the local level. Maintain effective working relationships with academic, government and non-government institutions within public land management.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. For GS-07: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent at the next lower grade (GS-05) in Federal service. Examples: demonstrated ability to plan & coordinate the use of land, water & related resources for recreation & conservation purposes; carry out designated portions of an inventory of existing recreation resources; analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions; plan and organize work; and communicate effectively orally and in writing; OR completed a bachelor's degree in outdoor recreation planning or a related field AND meet the provisions of with Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) See OPM Quals Standard-General Policies E(4)(f); OR completed 1 full year of graduate education or a master`s or higher degree in outdoor recreation planning or a related field that included 1 or more courses in outdoor recreation; OR an equivalent combination of the specialized experience and graduate education described above.Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate/graduate education. Undergraduate/graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary. However, there may be some physical exertion such as walking; hiking; standing; bending; carrying of items such as books and backpacks; driving an automobile or off-highway vehicle; operating a small boat, etc. Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office. Occasional travel may be required. The position may be required to visit field sites where risks may include exposure to inclement weather and potential injury from falls, strains, bites, strings, etc. The incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations. as prescribed in manuals/supplements or designated by the safety officer. Relocation/Recruitment Incentive: This position is offering a Relocation/Recruitment Incentive, 10% of the annual salary. To be eligible for a Relocation Incentive, you must be a current Federal Employee and the selectee must be employed with the Federal Government and the selectees current duty location is more than 50 miles from the duty location of this position. To be eligible for a Recruitment Incentive, selectee must not be employed by the Federal Government.

Education

This position falls under the Outdoor Recreation Planning Series 0023, Administrative and Management Positions. There are Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for this job series.

Degree in outdoor recreation planning or a related field such as: sociology, forestry, landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park administration, earth science, natural resource management and conservation, civil engineering, urban planning, or recreation. Applicants who qualify on the basis of graduate work in related disciplines must have one or more courses in outdoor recreation.

This position allows for education to be substituted for specialized experience (see qualification section for education requirements). If using education to qualify - You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
